Wish you could meet others who share your musical interests? Wish you could improve your playing while having fun with others? Want to join a band? Jordan Layne Bourland has started an exciting way to do this. “Grass Class” is a place where you can meet others, like yourself, who are looking to play music in a band setting. Since its start, students have been raving about this class. Many felt before attending this that they would never have the opportunity or the ability to play with other musicians. However, after working with their new friends in this camp they have surpassed many, if not all, expectations they had for themselves. Here’s the basic idea: Take one person on each instrument (banjo, mandolin, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, and bass) and get together for a one hour jam, once a week for twelve weeks, directed by Jordan. Jordan will provide you with all the learning materials you need. You will draw a list of 10-15 songs from his website Layne Publications. Each student will have a chance to “vote” for the songs that they wish to play. Once all the votes have been cast Jordan will sit down to determine the final list of songs.  Read more...

Long time ago people used guitar as an instrument to pass the time. If you look back in history the guitar was generally used for this very thing. Very few options were available to us during those ancient times for entertainment. The earliest images with people playing the guitar date back to 1350 B.C. where images were found on stone walls. History does not record guitar as the popular choice for amusement until the 9th century. By the 1800′s the guitar was well prominent in America, when even the poor would play it to entertain their families. The guitar was taught by musicians to their kids, all the way up till the 50′s. That is when rock n roll became the new thing. This is when many people decided to learn the guitar.

In today’s time it is easy to assume that the desire to learn the guitar would slowly disappear. Now days with the Media providing all the entertainment on so many different levels why would anyone feel the need to go through the pains of trying to learn the guitar? There are many things that motivate people to learn. Trying to get attention from the opposite gender, and also the way music helps us express ourselves. Oh! And just for plain good amusement.
