As musically speaking the great stunning Dave Matthews Band doesn’t have a whole lot in common with the Grateful Dead, outside of the tendency to jam the songs out to the delirium of the fans. Where the bands meet is in the work ethic and devotion to the fans to be out there throwing a wonderful and huge party summer after summer. The well known DMB has trekked through Pittsburgh just about every year for the past decade and a half, but diehard fans are going to have soak up the PNC Park experience on Saturday and hold onto it, because as the band announced in this spring that there will be no 2011 tour. As the Band has announced plans to take a break from touring in next year 2011, so it came as no surprise to find Blossom Music Center filled to capacity Friday night for a 2½-hour going-away party. Fronted by singer-guitarist Dave Matthews, a previous bartender from South Africa (by way of Virginia), this Grammy-winning group got the sold-out bash started with “Big Eyed Fish,” a midtempo tune with a touch of bluegrass.
